Welcome!

I used to hate the saying "Never trust a skinny chef." I come from a long line of lean, healthy, creative, culinary engineers. I feel it is entirely possible to cook delicious meals that are also healthy for your family. However, now that I am a wife and mother, I have begun to like that little quote. Sometimes, we need to be sneaky in order to make sure our family is well nourished and at the same time happy about it.
In this blog I will post some of my favorite recipes. I will also post meal plan ideas that have worked for years for me and my family. The plan is based around small meals throughout the day, the use of as many fresh ingredients as is reasonable, and using meat sparingly.
As a disclaimer, I am not a nutritionist or an expert. I worked in health care for 5 years which got me interested in the science of good eating. My occupation is also as a researcher at a University so I know how to apply critical thinking to the plethora of information available on nutrition to separate fact from fiction. I will try not to steer you wrong or present false information, but I am still no professional nutritionist. Additionally, I am assuming my audience is young adults with and without children. A lot of the nutritional advice floating around currently is generally directed towards the aging population that has a high incidence of obesity and diabetes. The types of food I cook are healthier than the average American meal, however, it is for a small family and not for a person managing severe weight related health problems.
